Secret of Spiritual Success - Implicit faith

Once Krishna and Arjuna were going together along the open road.

Seeing a bird in the sky, Krishna asked Arjuna, "Is that a dove?"
Arjuna: "Yes, it is a dove."
Krishna: "Is it an eagle?'
Arjuna replied promptly, "Yes, it is an eagle."
Krishna: "No, Arjuna, it looks like a crow to Me. Is it not a crow?"
Arjuna replied, "I am sorry, it is a crow beyond doubt."

Krishna laughed and chided him for his agreeing to whatever suggestion was given.

Arjuna said, "For me, your Words are far more weighty than the evidence of my eyes; you can make it a crow, a dove or an eagle and when you say it is a crow, it must be one."

Implicit faith is the secret of spiritual success.

Who is Ganapathi? What is Vinayaka Chaturthi?

Ganapathi is the embodiment of Buddhi and Jnana (wisdom). Truth emerges out of wisdom and ultimately leads to Ananda (bliss). This is the teaching of Ganapathi.

Who is Ganapathi? He is the Adhipathi (master) of all ganas, five senses, five elements and five life sheaths. Human body consists of five sheaths - Annamaya (food sheath), Pranamaya (life sheath), Manomaya (mind sheath), Vijnanamaya (wisdom sheath) and Anandamaya (bliss sheath). Man progresses only up to Manomaya. He is unable to go up to the sheaths of wisdom and bliss. One has to take refuge in God in order to reach the state of bliss.

Ganapathi is depicted as having elephant's head as He is very intelligent. Ganapathi is also known as Vinayaka, meaning one without a Nayaka (the master). He is the master of Siddhiand Buddhi. So, one has to pray to Vinayaka in order to acquire Siddhi and Buddhi. You have to make proper use of your intelligence in order to earn the grace of Vinayaka. Shun bad company. Seek good company. Only then will your life be redeemed.

You are under the false impression that today is the birthday of Vinayaka, but He has neither birth nor death. He has neither beginning nor end. He is the eternal witness. All the festivals of Bharat are suffused with deep inner meaning. They are highly sacred. Festivals are not just meant for preparing delicious items and consuming them. They are meant to remind us of Divinity. On festival days, you decorate your houses with buntings of green leaves and also you wear new clothes, discarding the old ones. Likewise, you should give up your old rotten habits and cultivate new and sacred ideas. Never disobey the command of God. If you do so, you will ruin yourself like Ravana and Hiranyakasipu.

What is that you have to offer to Vinayaka on this day of Vinayaka Chathurthi? Today people spend lot of money in offering various fruits to God. All these offerings are made only as a ritual. Ultimately people themselves consume them! No benefit accrues from making these offerings. PathramPushpamPhalam and Thoyam - these are the four things that you should offer God. Here Pathram (leaf) means body. This body may wither away at any moment. So never develop attachment towards the body, instead offer it to God. Pushpam(flower} means Hridaya, the heart.  This flower will never fade away.  Mind can be compared to Phalam (fruit) and Thoyam stands for tears of joy.  All these four should be offered to God.  This is the offering that God expects.

The Lord has no fixed form

There was an artist who had traveled far and wide and had built up for himself an extensive reputation.  But so far he had not achieved access to Krishna!  As much he was anxious to seek approbation from Lord Krishna as well.  With his view, one day he got an appointment with Krishna, met Him and requested Him to stay still, so that he could paint His picture.  He prepared the outline and told Krishna that he would get ready the final painting in a week's time.  Krishna knew the ego of the painter.

After a week, the painter brought a finished portrait, covered with a white cloth. In Krishna'spresence, when he uncovered the painting, the painter himself was shocked at the lack of similarity between Krishna and the painting.  The painter was completely surprised and asked for a week's time to get the job done.  The painter tried several times but every time the result was equally disappointing.  In complete frustration and total dejection, he wanted to leave the city and go away.  When he was going away, sage Nârada met him.  Nârada told him that it was silly to attempt to paint the picture of Lord Krishna. The Lord has no fixed form and He can change His face every second.  Nârada advised, "If you do want to paint Him, I will tell you a method which will enable you to do so." Nârada whispered something into the ear of the artist.

Following the advice given by Nârada, the painter came back, with a white cloth covering something and again approached Krishna and told Him that this time, He is welcome to change in any manner but the painting will look exactly like Him.  When the cloth was removed, Krishna saw only a mirror and this mirror reproduced an exact replica of Krishna.  If therefore, you are imaging that God is like this or like that, it is not correct.  You cannot describe God and your attempts will fail.  Make your mind clear and clean, fill it with love and devotion, that will enable you to have the true vision of God.
