Understand the importance of hierarchy from clock...

As all of us know an analog clock have
* a Hour hand
* a Minute hand
* a Seconds hand (optional)

If you watch the clock keenly you may appreciate that
* the seconds hand rotates 1440 times a day
* the minute hand rotates 24 times a day
* the hour hand rotates just 2 times a day

Now the question is who is important in terms of value?

* seconds hand is an optional one it is not generally necessary to have a seconds hand to know the time, if we are not particular about the precision.  In other words for normal day-to-day life we can live without seconds hand.
* minute hand is important to know the time however in the event of any damage to minute hand then we can survive just with the hour hand temporarily until it gets fixed.
* hour hand - is really important to know the time.

Assume we have only
* seconds hand - we cannot know what is the minute and what is the hour so no use of just having the seconds hand
* minutes hand - we cannot know what is the hour and so no use of just having the minutes hand
* hours hand - we can know the time correct to 12min and can survive in the event of missing minutes and seconds hand

This is very similar to the hierarchal triangle/pyramid.
Most important will be in the top of the pyramid where the surface area is least some what important will be in the middle where the surface area is more and least important will be in the base where the surface area is most.

Hence the size of the hour, minute, second hands are short, longer, longest respectively.
