Rules to count number of passengers in a car

When I went to driving class, the instructor was teaching the rules of the number of passengers that could travel in a passenger car.

How to calculate?

"In a 5 seater car 5 adults can travel that includes the driver.", said the Instructor.

"What a big deal this is very easy", I thought in my mind

"How many kids can travel?", asked the Instructor to the class.

.... .... .... Silence

"I theory 4 adults and 3 children can travel in a 5 seater car", said the Instructor and he continued "three kids make one adult"

Now I had a question/comment that I could not resist to ask/tell.

"I thought two adults make one kid"??

Instructor did not get the point at first iteration, but on second iteration got it!!!
